ABOUT THE ROLES PURPOSE
This role is responsible, primarily, for leading the team of Medenta Business Development Managers (BDMs) and Practice Plan Corporate Business Development Managers (BDMs) to deliver the income budget for Medenta for all clients and the income budget for dental plans for multisite dental groups (DSOs) in keeping with quality benchmarks and compliance requirements. The role will also provide important opportunities to sell/introduce wider Wesleyan Group services, potentially bundling services in to a Group wide proposition where appropriate.
This role will also contribute to and support the wider business strategy to maximise Practice Plan Groups (PPG) contribution to the achievement of the Society’s purpose of “create brighter financial futures for the professions we all trust” and supporting the 7-Point Plan and strategic drivers of

Simply put, the Medenta and Group Manager role is pivotal to supporting the PPG BDMs in

SCOPE OF THE ROLE
- There are currently 5 direct reports
- The geographic area covered is the UK and the role requires working flexibly across the day/week
- There are approximately 600 Medenta clients and 200 multisite clients
- Management of key external relationships with the lender (currently V12/Secure Trust Bank) and the FLA
Management of key internal relationships the compliance manager, the operations team managers, the Head of Sales, the Head of Marketing, the PPG Directors and the WFS Head of Dental
ROLES MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACTIVITIES
- 4 Business Performance: Deliver the agreed income target (Budget) for Medenta and multi site dental groups by leading and motivating 2 teams of BDMs to provide high quality support to new and existing clients. The target market for patient finance includes general and specialist individual practices and multi site DSOs. The target market for plan administration and business support services is multisite organisations. Both target markets are suitable for a range of Wesleyan Group products and services.
- 4 Supervision: Supervise the BDM teams and broader activities relating to finance and multi-site dental groups to ensure agreed standards are achieved
- 4 People & Engagement: Coach and mentor your BDMs to improve their knowledge, skills and behaviours, especially in more client complex scenarios, and manage own self-development, to optimise motivation and performance. Responsibility to maintain and increase your people’s engagement (measured through Employee Opinion Survey (EOS)) to support delivery of our key business areas
- 4 Recruitment: Own the recruitment of BDMs for the Medenta and multi-site dental group teams to ensure a full headcount is maintained and support the wider leadership team with other recruitment activities
- 4 Business growth: Own the development of business for patient finance and multi-site dental groups to ensure new opportunities are identified and realised with a focus on increasing penetration of clients in each of these areas.
- 4 Group & Divisional strategy: Support the implementation and development of the wider business strategy by translating the 7 Point-Plan into key local objectives. Actively involved in supporting the wider Practice Plan Group and teams by engaging in a “champion” role and the development of the overall success
- 4 Leadership: Demonstrate appropriate leadership and management behaviours as outlined in the behavioral frameworks
Business Performance
- 4 Create, maintain, and deliver against your annual business plan to ensure achievement of agreed objectives
- 4 Monitor business production of your team to ensure that all BDMs are working towards individual and business objectives and act appropriately to support, celebrate and share best practice
- 4 Identify areas of under-performance at either a team or individual BDM level and implement strategies to rectify
- 4 Maximise the creation of opportunities for the wider Wesleyan Group in line with agreed annual targets
- 4 Ensure the Head of Sales and other members of the PPG Senior Management Team (as appropriate), are kept informed of progress against objectives, highlighting any potential issues arising and proposed solutions
- 4 Manage costs and expenditure within your teams to ensure all activities remain within agreed budget levels and are effective in cost-benefit terms
Supervision
- 4 Ensure all BDMs are aware of expected service standards and are supported and motivated to deliver against them
- 4 Conduct observations, team meetings, one-to-one meetings, and other activities to ensure that BDMs receive regular, robust and relevant supervision in accordance with agreed standards
- 4 Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure that the BDMs are delivering the volume, quality, and range of business in line with expectations
- 4 Ensure all Area activities are conducted in an ethical and client centric manner in keeping with statutory, regulatory and Society requirements always.
People & Engagement
- 4 Provide a positive, collaborative, and coaching style as a leader for your Region and the wider Division
- 4 Act as a role model in self-development – identify own personal development areas, including professional qualifications, and define specific plans to address these areas
- 4 Encourage BDMs to identify any personal development areas and work with them to address these areas in accordance with the behaviours matrix
- 4 Identify any under-performance issues and work with the BDM and HR (as appropriate), to agree and implement development plans to rectify the issues, taking any formal action necessary under the performance management process
- 4 Provide regular challenge and feedback to BDMs in group and individual scenarios to develop skills, behaviours and growth opportunities for the benefit of the BDMs and the wider business
- 4 Ensure all BDMs have the support required through induction and ongoing training to operate to at least a Competent level
- 4 Understand clearly the temperature of your people’s engagement levels, lead and act appropriately to feedback primarily through the Employee Opinion Survey and local intelligence and make improvements where identified
Recruitment
- 4 Responsible for the team headcount requirements by having an awareness of any potential future vacancies that may arise through growth, performance issues, pending retirements or other reasons
- 4 Work with Recruitment team when vacancies arises to ensure that any potential candidates are progressed through the assessment and selection processes without delay
- 4 Manage the recruitment and onboarding process for successful applicants with relevant support from the Recruitment team, ensuring regular contact with the applicant is maintained
- 4 Build and manage a pipeline of potential future candidates through developing business and own personal networks, ensuring regular contact with potential candidates is maintained
Business growth
- 4 Maintain an awareness of the wider UK dental market to identify potential business opportunities within the patient finance and multi-site sub-markets as well as the wider PPG business
- 4 Create and deliver effective strategies and business plans to capitalise on identified opportunities
- 4 Develop business networks through local, regional, and national networking activities within the relevant markets
- 4 Manage and maximise the business potential arising from leads generated from local and national marketing initiatives, campaigns, events and webinars
- 4 Support BDMs in identifying new opportunities to market, and developing growth strategies to promote the proposition
- 4 Monitor and deliver to increase client penetration in your markets

- 4 Develop effective and mutually productive working relationships with wider business areas including the RSMs, Operations, Marketing, and other internal and external stakeholders
- 4 Maintain an awareness of the industry and specialist markets to identify and propose potential business opportunities for PPG and the wider Wesleyan Group
- 4 Translate the Society’s 7-Point-Plan into meaningful and local objectives and action
- 4 Promote a collaborative and constructive culture to support delivery of the Society’s 7-point Plan, to enable creativity, challenge, and shared delivery of the business objectives
- 4 Actively involved in the development of the PPG strategy supporting your PPG manager colleagues through active participation and support

ROLES REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND CAPABAILITIES
- Educated to A level or equivalent standard
- A proven track record of success as a first line manager, possibly in a regulated environment
- Practical experience of working within a business support environment with professionals
- Previous experience of managing a budget and being responsible for the profitability of their area of responsibility.

Specialist knowledge of one of the dental market is desirable but not essential:
